WMS provides this web Library for convenient access to basic or frequently-requested documents, maps and data resources. WMS is currently building an internet portal to provide public access to a wider range of WMS documents and data (as required under the Municipality’s NPDES storm water permit conditions). Until the portal is activated, users may request specific data not available in the web Library by contacting WMS.

 Resources

Resources in the web Library are generally organized into three categories:

Documents and Reports
Documents and Reports include any WMS information that has been published in organized reports, each of which may include text, tables, and graphics. Digital copies of these documents are generally in a *.pdf file format suitable for printing.

In addition to a digital document archive, WMS maintains a hardcopy archive, the WMS Water Resources Library, at its offices. WMS provides limited public access to this archive. A searchable electronic catalog of the contents of this archive is available.

Maps
Maps include all published or interactive stand-alone WMS maps and graphics, and represent graphical compilations and interpretations of other spatial and tabular data. Users are reminded that WMS maps, like any map, are limited by scale and other mapping characteristics: all map information is ‘point-in-time’ and typically is only narrowly representative.

WMS compiles and publishes prepared map views for specific applications. Published WMS maps are compiled as individual plates or as pages in atlases of related map views. Atlases typically include map indices. Atlas indices can be viewed in the Web Library to ease selection of a desired map page. Each map page is generally formatted in a single *.pdf file suitable for printing, though some map pages have been re-sampled to ease download for screen viewing. WMS also supports one interactive map, Anchorage Live. The WMS interactive map allows the user to prepare and capture custom map views for download and printing.

Data
Data includes all tabular or spatial information and its metadata that has undergone quality control review but that otherwise reflects un-interpreted observations. Access to these data will be provided through the WMS data portal but until this portal is in place, key watershed geospatial datasets will be available directly through the Web Library.
